What is Laser Therapy? Laser Therapy is an non-invasive technique that used low level light therapy to stimulate cells to heal themselves. See more info below and at the Bioflex Web Site
What does Laser Therapy help with?
It is helpful for a wide variety of issues including: injury, arthritis, skin conditions and degeneration.
How long does it take?
Laser Therapy, though highly effective, is not an instant fix. The nature and timing of your injury/pain and your overall age/physical condition will determine how quickly your body responds with noticeable results to Laser Therapy.
For first time treatment, a common course is to have 3 sessions the first week, 2 sessions the second week, and then assess how often to continue ongoing care.
Sessions range in length from 30-90min depending on the body part.
How much does it cost?
Laser Therapy is a investment and is covered/supplemented under Chiropractic care by most medical insurance.
Cost per session is based on time:
30 min= $55
60 min=$75
Is it uncomfortable?
For most of the session you will be relaxing with the light ray positioned on your body. Dr. Kippel or Lindsay will reposition it every 10 minutes or so. There is no discomfort. You can chill with a book or your phone. Some patients experience mild aching the night after treatment as cells mobilize to the sight of repair.
See bottom of page for more info.

More in depth info:
You may be familiar with how our cells convert sunlight into vitamin D. Similarly, cells also convert different types of light for other uses.
The Bioflex laser system delivers the precise light wavelengths that cells use to decrease inflammation and repair damaged tissues. This light goes deeper into the body than cold and heat can and stimulates healing.
Bioflex is a Canadian Company with its own research clinic which continues to ensure its process is as effective as possible.
Bioflex emits no heat. This is why the therapy is known as Cold, Low Level, or Low Intensity Light Therapy or Photobiomodulation Therapy.
This therapy has been proven useful in a wide array of both acute and chronic issues, often reversing the needs for drugs and surgery, and at a lower cost.
Dr. Kippel has been practicing laser therapy in Courtenay for ten year and has seen a lot of success with his patients.

What to Expect for a Laser Session
CLOTHING
Though you wear clothing during laser treatments the instruments must be placed directly on the skin which means we usually have to adjust your clothing.
LOW BACK: we will be placing an instrument partially on the buttocks so please wear clothing (including underwear) with a loose waistband.
NECK & SHOULDERS: please wear a shirt with loose neck and arm openings and be aware that a bra strap may be used to help hold the instrument in place. If you have long hair please tie it up.
LEGS: please wear shorts, very lose pants, or a skirt.
ARMS: please wear a loose tank or short sleeve shirt.
HIPS: please be aware removal of clothing is rare but may be necessary. The looser your garments the less likely total removal will be necessary.
Any exposed skin can be covered with one of our blankets and you will be given privacy via screens.
Though we keep the laser treatment room extra warm, and offer you blankets, though you are also welcome to bring your own.
THE INSTRUMENTS
ARRAY
The first laser instrument used in each treatment session is a plastic pad (array) covered in bumps (light-emitting diodes) that conforms to your body in a c-shape. It may feel slightly cool when it first touches your skin but quickly comes to skin temperature and will not get hot. This pad is usually applied to two or three different areas per session, delivering two kinds of light therapy during each placement. Both light types emitted from the array are safe for your eyes.
PROBE
The second laser instrument used for each treatment is a probe which Dr Kippel will administer by pressing the probe into the skin for seconds at a time. The light from this instrument is harmful to your vision but has two safety functions - the probe only emits laser light when it is in full contact with skin and both you and Dr. Kippel will wear glasses which do not allow the laser light through. How the probe feels will vary considerably based on the nature of the injury/issue, your pain level, and the location of the area needing treatment. Dr Kippel will do his best to prevent pain.
The probe delivers the most focused part of the treatment which is the most effective in reduction of inflammation.
HEAT PACK
After the laser instruments we apply a warm (not hot) heat pack to the area for at least ten minutes. This part of the treatment as important as the other elements.
AFTER CARE
There is no particular after-care needed for most issues other than caution with over activity.

Testimonial
I've suffered migraines since the late 1980s but hadn't considered chiropractic adjustments for migraine relief until I had my first adjustments with Dr Kippel due to a strained back. Adjustments immediately became a regular part of my migraine management. In the fall of 2017 I added Bioflex laser to my migraine prevention toolkit. I don't feel much during the treatment until towards the end when a relaxed sensation seeps deep into my neck. This sensation often lasts the rest of the day. ~ST
